One of the oddest and most interesting things in a movie about a person stranded alone on another planet is that the character displays an almost total lack of sentimentality. We never see him speak to his parents, we never see him despair.
Rather, Matt Damon’s character is perpetually chipper and always entertaining — just like the film.
There is no doubt that this movie is engrossing. It captures you right from the start and never lets go, in perhaps the most endearing way possible — through Matt Damon’s uniquely hilarious monologues into the camera.
